Release Time: Sunday, July 27, 2008 between 5 and 6 p.m. Doors
will be locked at 6 p.m. YOU are responsible for exhibits left after
that time.
GENERAL RULES:
1. All 4-H Handicraft exhibits will be judged from 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. on
Monday, July 21, 2008 using the interview system. Parents and leaders
are encouraged to attend with the child during the interview judging
process, however, the 4-Hers is responsible for answering the judges
questions.
2. All posters, photographs and artwork must be able to be hung! DUCT
TAPE AND STRING DOES NOT HOLD most items. Items without hangers or
inadequate hangers will be hole-punched for displaying purposes.
DIVISION 27 -CAKE DECORATING
Rules:
1. All exhibits should attach skills summary questions or may be penalized
at judge's discretion.
2. Open only to members enrolled in cake decorating project.
3. Decorating must be done on an artificial cake form, such as styrofoam
or inverted cake pan. Do not exhibit on real cakes.
4. Exhibits should be placed on disposable plates or boards covered with
foil, plastic or decorative covering and allow 1" minimum of free space
between cake and outer edge of plate or board.
5. Do not bring exhibits on glass plates or valued trays. Fair is not
responsible for breakage.
6. Frosting should make a good base for the decorations.
7. Design should be suitable for the size and shape of cake. It
should show good use of color and a pleasing combination of decorations.
8. Member must exhibit only in class of unit in which they are enrolled.
See members' manual for details on exhibit requirement.
9. Posters should be limited to a maximum of 22" x 28". Put a small hole
in upper center of poster for hanging. Display boards should not exceed
2' x 3'.
10. All exhibits with frosting that are not picked up by release of
exhibits may be disposed of by 4-H management. Ribbons will be saved and
given to respective counties.

DIVISION 28 -LEATHERCRAFT
Rules:
1. All exhibits should attach skills summary questions, or it may be
penalized at judge's discretion.
2. More than one entry may be made in classes. However, exhibits MUST be
of a different nature. Example: there may be a leather necktie and a
leather halter, but NOT two leather neckties.
2. Do not send buckles with belts, bulbs with lamps, wooden legs with
camp stools, or clock movements with clocks. Dyeing will be considered
in the judging of leather articles.
3. If you make an item from a kit, clearly explain the type of kit used
on the skills summary sheet.

DIVISION 29 -PHOTOGRAPHY
Rules:
1. All exhibits should attach skills summary questions or may be penalized
at judge's discretion.
2. Exhibits shall be mounted securely on a stiff mounting board of any
color. To be mounted on size of board appropriate to the photo.
3. Ensure a hanging hole in the mounting board at top center or holes on
left and right edges.
4. NO breakable glass allowed - use of Plexiglas or shrink plastic is
allowed.

DIVISION 30-ROPECRAFT
Rules:
1. All exhibits should attach skills summary questions, or it may be
penalized at judge's discretion.
2. Boards for mounting ropecraft should not exceed 2' x 2' and should be
light plywood or masonite. A hole should be made in the top center of
the display board. The hole should be 1/2" down from the top of the
board and be at least 1/4" in diameter. Boards without adequate holes
will not be displayed.
3. More than one entry may be made.

DIVISION 31 -VISUAL ARTS
Rules:
1. All exhibits should attach skills summary questions, or it may be
penalized at judge's discretion.
2. A project done in school should be eligible for display or show
through one, but only one organization. The organization should be
chosen by the youth member - be that school or 4-H.
3. Each exhibit or each piece of the exhibit must be identified with
artist's name, age, county, year in project and media used.
4. Oversize exhibits will be displayed as space permits.
5. For safety in handling and for attractive display at fair each
exhibit must have an adequate hanger - either string or wire firmly
attached. Absolutely no pictures, posters or display boards not properly
prepared for hanging will be displayed. The 4-H department is not
responsible for breakage due to inadequate hangers. Pictures should be
matted or framed, but it can be very simple. Framing will not be judged
except as to its appropriateness on type of picture.
6. Please do not send frames with glass.
7. Exhibits in this division must have been created in one of the visual
arts project areas during the current 4-H year.
8. Members may enter as many entries as desired per class as long as
items are significantly different from each other.
9. An exhibit may be accompanied by a statement indicating:
a. What you started with
b. What technique you used
c. What you would change
d. What you learned
e. Idea on purpose of the exhibit
f. Special information you think the judge should know
